NARASARAOPET: Blaming chief minister Chandrababu Naidu for the prevailing drought conditions under the Nagarjuna Sagar Project, YSRCP loksabha constituency in-charge Lavu Srikrishnadevarayalu alleged on Monday that state government had completely failed to tap its quota of waters in Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir.
He said that the self-styled visionary chief minister had turned a blind eye to the situation in the state resulting crops getting dried up in lakhs of acres.

YSRCP organised a massive protest in front of Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) office in the town on Monday. Scores of farmers from Vinukonda, Narasaraopet, Gurazala and Sattenapalle constituencies participated in the protest demanding immediate release of water from the dam.
Addressing the gathering, Srikrishnadevarayalu said that Chandrababu Naidu had once again proved that he is synonymous for the drought as the state was reeling under worst-ever drought situation.
“Unfortunately, the CM is busy in political activity to save his skin from the cases,” he alleged.
He said that state government had failed to release water to the canals in spite of getting full waters into Nagarjuna Sagar project. He said that the government had lost moral right to continue in the power for failing to protect the standing crops.
Local legislator Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy said that people would always prefer to see Chandrababu Naidu in opposition as the state faces natural calamities whenever he becomes CM. He demanded that the state government should immediately withdraw Varabandi system and release water from Nagarjuna Sagar.

Former legislator Marri Rajasekhar said that farmers launched agriculture operations only after ministers and legislators of the TDP promised to release water from Nagarjuna Sagar dam. He wondered as to why all these leaders have tuned silent when the officials were playing with the lives of the farmers. He demanded that the government should pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre for the crop loss.
Vinukonda constituency in-charge Bolla Bramha Naidu said that chilli, cotton and paddy crops were withering away in about 10 lakh acres due to the mismanagement of waters by the state government. He alleged that Vinukonda town was facing severe crisis even for the drinking water due to the poor releases from Sagar project. He demanded that the state government should explain as to why the government is unable to release water for the crops despite Sagar project has maximum reserves.
