GAYA: Gaya policemen use a women’s barrack under construction as a gambling den.
An FIR against four alleged gamblers, two of them in police service, was lodged in Rampur police station in this connection on Sunday. One of the accused is the son of a woman constable.
Though the practice has allegedly been going on for quite sometime, the beans were spilled following a violent dispute among the gamblers a couple of days back.
A four- wheeler belonging to one of the uniformed gamblers was also torched near the Police Lines following a fight.
The case was instituted after a preliminary inquiry conducted by City SP Anil Kumar. In his inquiry report, the City SP indicted the policemen for gambling, absenteeism and other wrongdoings. One of the uniformed gambler, according to the sources, was transferred to Kaimur quite sometime back and he allegedly violated the transfer order.
The Kaimur SP has been informed about the policeman’s activity.
The incident has brought to light the sorry state of affairs of the Police Lines. Earlier, a head constable living in the barrack killed a woman, alleged to be in an illicit relationship with her killer.
Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra told this correspondent on Monday he had taken the matter with due seriousness. Two policemen have been suspended in this connection.

Asked whether outsiders too along with the cops gambled in the Police Lines barrack, the SSP said it was a matter of investigation, but it could not be ruled out. He also confirmed the burning of vehicle as a fallout of gambling-related dispute.
About the head constable who earlier allegedly killed a woman friend, the SSP said the matter had not been brought to his notice. Now that he has come to know about the it, he said, he will track the case.
A few days back, eight employees of the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College and Hospital were arrested and sent to jail on the charge of gambling in a building under construction on the hospital premises. The employees have since been released on bail.
