HOWRAH: A team of cops from GRP police station on Monday rescued a 60-year-old woman, who was abandoned by her son under Howrah station's clock tower 10 days ago. The elderly woman was identified as Sapna Chatterjee.
The cops found her lying near the Gate No. 1 at a semi-conscious state on Monday. Far from taking action, the elderly woman refused to file a complaint against her son.

Cops did not want to disclose the son's name as the woman refused to lodge a complaint against him. Police sources added that Chatterjee still believes that her son would return and take her home after he gets a job.
Presently, the son lives at his in-laws' place in Ganguly Bagan but is said to have promised his mother that he would stop living there once employed, rent a home himself and bring her there.
The 60-year-old said that her son had promised that he would come back and take her home after getting a job himself. Sapna told cops that about six months ago her son ran out of money that he had inherited from his father and was forced leave their rented apartment in Beck Bagan.
OC GRP Howrah Kaushik Banerjee said: "We brought her to the GRP police station and called a doctor, who examined her. The doctor found she was suffering from malnutrition. She did not want to lodge a complaint against her son and said she would wait for him to get a job and take her away. We will try to rehabilitate her in a home."
