KOLKATA: Hooghly’s Sanjay Mallick, who was stuck in Malaysia after his employer took away his passport, returned to Kolkata on Monday. He had been in Kuchin Sarowak since September 10.
Mallick said he paid a tout — Kabir Hussain Mondal of Bagda — Rs 90,000 for a job as a construction-site helper in Malaysia. He was promised a salary of Rs 45,000, but was paid half.
“I was forced to carry iron rods weighing 60kg-70kg to the 10th floor and even fell unconscious several times.
I was even beaten up by my supervisor. I wanted to return, but they refused. My father mortgaged our house and paid Rs 52,000 to Mondal to arrange for my return. Mondal sent me a fake air ticket and I found out he had sold me to the company for three years.”
“Last week, my brother asked me to send a video clip narrating my trauma and approached an NGO, which rescued me,” Mallick said.
