Bridal chain Berketex Bride has announced that it has gone into administration after 50 years of trading.

The UK business said it's ceased trading - with 11 outlets in the UK and one in Dublin closing on Tuesday with no plans to reopen.

The bridal company been in existence for more than five decades selling wedding dresses, bridesmaids' dresses and other occasion-wear accessories.

Its director expressed his "sincere apologies for the abrupt closure of the store".

Insolvency practitioners Wilson Field, who have been instructed to assist the company, said they appreciated that the closure would be "distressing" for customers and would deal with individual queries as quickly as possible.

The closure of Berketex follows growing number of high street giants that have closed their doors for good over the past year at a loss of thousands of jobs.

Berketex had a shop in central London, two in Scotland and eight more across England, including concessions in two branches of Debenhams.

Anyone who has purchased items that have not yet been received should telephone 0114 3491388.
