Man arrested for setting fire to a speed camera in Wayville

When fire crews extinguished a blaze to a speed camera overnight, a man allegedly went back to set it on fire again.

Just before 12.30am on Wednesday morning, police and fire crews were called to the intersection of Anzac Highway and Greenhill Rd in Wayville.

They found a speed camera on fire and quickly extinguished it.

The suspect, a 40-year-old Reynella man, allegedly drove off before police could arrive. But he soon returned, allegedly.

Emergency services were called back to the scene just a few hours later when the man allegedly tried to relight the same camera.

He was arrested at the scene.

He has been charged with two counts of arson and is expected to appear in court today, while his vehicle is being forensically examined.
