On Friday, Seattle Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal came out swinging for Nancy Pelosi to be the next Speaker of the House, telling Politico that "no one can really doubt Pelosi’s progressive chops" and publishing a lengthy Facebook post explaining that in her view, there's "no other progressive running for speaker."

Jayapal also said Pelosi's promise to make sure progressive Democrats get seats on powerful House committees is a way to build the progressive bench for years to come. Turning back to Pelosi's cred and abilities, Jayapal declared: "I want to know that there is someone who is tested, smart, strategic and effective in battle. To me, that person is Nancy Pelosi. So I will be supporting her for Speaker for the next two years." Not everyone agrees with Jayapal's take.

On the congresswoman's own Facebook page, a person who identified themselves as Dawn Darington replied: "When did Nancy Pelosi become Progressive? She is anti-Single Payer and supports endless war."

While many other comments were supportive of Jayapal's decision, a number of her followers declared themselves "saddened," writing things like "NO Pramila, don't" and "PLEASE Pramila Jayapal represent the Progressive platform that elected you."

The comment thread debate mirrored one connected to the most recent episode of the Blabbermouth podcast, in which we asked: "Should Nancy Pelosi be speaker?"

And of course it mirrored a national argument on the left over whether Pelosi, who's been in Congress for 31 years, deserves to lead the Democrats one last time.

But while people on the left continue to debate, Jayapal has firmly picked her side in this fight.

"I believe our conscience, our Constitution and our future is on the line with Trump in the White House and this Republican Party," Jayapal wrote on her Facebook page. "We have to act quickly to keep our base energized and to win in 2020 and get trump out of the White House."
