Hyderabad: After taking a break from campaigning, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was back to his aggressive best in Khammam on Monday by warning the voters against falling prey to the ‘casteist politics’ pursued by the Opposition. “They are approaching for votes wearing the caste mask. Slap them in their faces for dividing people on the basis of caste and religion,” he said in the first of a string of rallies he will address over the next few days.
The TDP, which has a strong presence in Khammam, was in the line of KCR’s fire as he trained his guns on his AP counterpart and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and showed a letter that the latter had addressed to the Centre against the Sitarama project in Khammam.
“Question TDP candidates about it. If Naidu does not withdraw the letter, TDP candidates should have no business to seek votes here,” he said, explaining that the Sitarama project was intended to provide irrigation water to the region. “Let us not be ignorant to the designs of Naidu and let us not allow ourselves to be fooled. Naidu does not intend any good for Telangana,” he alleged. “As TRS president, I am warning Naidu to withdraw that letter he had written to the Centre,” he said.

Urging the electorate to be aware of the designs of Naidu, he asked the public, “Are we the sheep to be driven anywhere as he wishes?” Explaining how he had ensured 24-hour power supply in the state, he wondered as to how the Congress and the TDP during their rule could not even think of doing it. KCR said Naidu claims himself to be an intelligent man but could not do anything for the welfare of the people. KCR thundered he had introduced 411 schemes even as the crowds roared in approval.
Shifting gears, KCR said the Congress is only interested in pleasing the bosses in Delhi by naming projects after Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. “Were they not aware of Komaram Bheem and other Telangana heroes,” he sought to know and said if TRS is voted back to power, the Sitarama project would be completed in two years and irrigation water would be provided to every part of the district.
Addressing a meeting in Palakurthi in Warangal, KCR once again singled out Naidu. “He claims to have international repute as an administrator. Why did he not show his acumen in designing schemes beneficial for the public,” he questioned. “Thelivi leda?” he said, remarking that did Naidu not have intellect. KCR promised if the party is re-elected, his government will come out with a scheme where people who have land could be given financial assistance to construct houses.
