Bihar: Jamui DM faces dharna by wife over marital dispute

Vatsala Singh (26), wife of Jamui DM Dharmendra Kumar, and her mother, Pushpa Singh (52), sat on a dharna outside DM's residence after they were denied entry by DM's bodyguards. Kumar has filed for divorce but Singh says she wants to reconcile. She said that Kumar started avoiding him saying that she came from a high-class society, wore shorts and always spoke in English.

PATNA: The wife of Jamui DM Dharmendra Kumar on Wednesday sat on a dharna outside his official residence in Jamui along with her mother after they were allegedly not allowed to enter the house.

Vatsala Singh (26) said she and her mother, Pushpa Singh (52), had reached Jamui from Patna around 8am on Wednesday. She alleged, “At my husband’s behest, his security guards and other subordinates stopped us at the gate of the house.” Till evening, reports said, the two were sitting outside the DM’s residence.
Speaking to TOI on the phone, Vatsala alleged, “In a sudden move, my husband filed a divorce petition in a family court in Patna in March last.
All my efforts to have a talk with him have failed.”
Answering TOI’s queries, Kumar, in a WhatsApp message said, “The matter is in court and in trial. They had accused me of harassment in April but the case was false. I will follow the court order in the case.” The divorce petition was filed on March 7.
On the other hand, Vatsala, who belongs to a business family from Pataliputra Colony in Patna, claimed that her husband started avoiding her by saying she is from “high-class society and moves around wearing shorts”. She added, “He even alleged before my parents and other family members that I talk in English all the time. This a lie. I tried to sort out the differences but he has not given any valid reason for divorce till now.”

Kumar, who comes from Beur in Patna, is a 2013-batch IAS officer while Vatsala studied textile designing in Delhi. Vatsala said, “We got married on March 11, 2015 and everything was going well initially.” She added, “After our marriage, I went to Delhi to complete studies and returned by the end of 2015. It was at that time my husband started labelling allegations against me. His parents and family members would only listen to him.” She claimed that Kumar did not attend counselling sessions before the court and the National Women’s Commission (NCW).
Vatsala said, “It’s almost 12 hours since we reached his official residence and he hasn’t come out. His gurads and subordinates say he his not at home but I think it’s a lie.” She added , “I am ready to sort out the matter and hear him out. For this, I have moved court and the NCW.”
