Delhi: Elderly woman killed in Sarita Vihar, 51-yr-old driver held

According to police, the accused tried to rob the woman, but when she resisted, he slit her throat and fled the spot.

Four days after an elderly woman was found dead with her throat slit at her residence in Sarita Vihar, police have arrested a 51-year-old man, who worked as a driver at her neighbour’s house. According to police, the accused tried to rob the woman, but when she resisted, he slit her throat and fled the spot.

“The accused, Mehboob, would wake up early in the morning and look for people wearing gold jewellery so that he could rob them. But he could not find any such people,” said DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal.

“The accused, who worked near the victim’s home, conducted a recee of her house under the pretext of delivering a letter. He left his helmet at her house and returned to murder her,” added the DCP.

Police said that the accused left with the gold jewellery worn by the woman without ransacking the house.
