THE two surviving cubs of T1, a Pandharkawda tigress which was killed on November 2 by a sharpshooter, killed a pony in a forest patch near Anji village in Wardha district.

“I also received this message about the pony being hunted (by cubs)…,” said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) A K Mishra. When queried on the future course of action about the cubs, he said, “it’s very early to decide that.” “The cubs ate most of the animal… tt means they are now able to survive by themselves,” said sources.

Sharpshooter Shafath Ali Khan, who killed TI, said, “It makes little sense now to tranquillise and capture the cubs. They have discovered their killer instinct in the absence of their mother. They should be given a chance to chart their own course. If they are captured now and put in a strange territory, it might invite trouble for them.”

General Manager of Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra, Hrishikesh Ranjan, said, “There is a high likelihood that they belong to the same animal, as far as pattern of stripes is concerned. So yes, one cub seems to be associated with the tigress”.
