Deputy superintendent of Jehanabad jail axed
PATNA: IG (prisons and correctional services) Mithilesh Mishra on Saturday suspended deputy superintendent of Jehanabad district jail Sanjeev Kumar for not cooperating with the district officials during raids conducted in the jail in August and October this year.
“Jehanabad district magistrate (DM) Alok Ranjan Ghosh had also received a report regarding several irregularities in the jail involving Kumar.
He was subsequently suspended on Saturday,” Mishra said.
The DM said the district administration had raided the jail twice between August and October. “Around 10 cellphones were seized in the raids. During the second raid, Kumar reached the jail late by 15 minutes. It was Kumar who was in charge of keys of all the wards. The delay alerted the inmates and they threw cellphones to bushes, toilets and drains. However, some cellphones, chargers and sim cards were seized from inside and outside the wards,” Ghosh said.
The DM said the inmates of the jail had gone on strike earlier to protest against poor quality of food. “Reports against the deputy superintendent were sent to the IG after the raids,” Ghosh said.
