BHOPAL: Pooran Singh Bundela, the former Congress MLA from Mehroni seat in Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh alleged on Monday that he could be killed in a fake encounter in UP at the behest of chief minister Yogi Adityanath for campaigning in favour of the Congress in Khurai assembly seat of poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

Bundela, who was elected on a Congress ticket in 1991 and 1996 in Lalitpur district of UP told journalists in Bhopal on Monday that both, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan wanted him to campaign in favour of BJP candidate from Khurai seat and present MP home and transport minister Bhupendra Singh.

But, he instead decided to campaign for the Congress candidate Arunoday Choube as Lalitpur neigbours at least six constituencies of MP, where he holds significant influence.

"Just a few days back, a BJP worker Sirnam Singh, who is a close aide of BJP candidate from Khurai seat and present MP home minister Bhupendra Singh met me and offered me Rs 2 crore if I joined the BJP and campaigned for the MP minister in Khurai, but rejected the offer," alleged Bundela.

Since the time I've started campaigning for the Congress candidate, the UP police is trying to frame me up in false case. "I could be killed in fake encounter by police in UP at the behest of CM Yogi Adityanath in UP. If I am eliminated in MP, then the state's home minister and BJP candidate from Khurai seat Bhupendra Singh will be responsible for it," alleged Bundela.

Importantly, more than a decade and half back, Bundela had accused powerful independent MLA from Kunda seat of UP's Pratapgarh district and ex-UP minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya for threatening to kill him over switching loyalty to the BSP. Based on Bundela's complaint, Raja Bhaiya was arrested and sent to jail by the then Mayawati government.
