PATNA: Minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha on Wednesday flagged off the inaugural run of a new Buxar- Varanasi MEMU passenger train (03229/03230) through videoconferencing from New Delhi.
Union minister of state for health and Buxar MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey was also present at the Railway Board office during the function.
The train left Buxar at 3pm to reach Varanasi at 6pm.
On its return journey on the inaugural day, it was scheduled to leave Varanasi at 7.35pm and reach Buxar at 11.45pm.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha said railway projects worth over Rs 4,500 crore were being executed in Bihar. Besides, the railways would complete installation of escalator, lift and coach indication boards at Buxar by the end of December. A spacious circulating area along with a garden is also being developed at Buxar station, Sinha said.
According to East Central Railway (ECR)’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar, the new MEMU’s actual schedule from Thursday onwards would be different from that on its inaugural day. The train’s numbers will also change to 63229/63230 from Thursday.
It will leave Buxar at 6.15am and reach Varanasi at 9.45am on Thursday onwards. On its return journey, it will leave Varanasi at 6.25pm and reach Buxar at 10pm, Kumar said, adding the train would cover a distance of about 111km between Buxar and Varanasi in about three hours and 30 minutes.

The new train has been given stoppages at Chausa, Barakalan Halt, Gahmar, Karahiya Halt, Bhadaura, Usiakhas Halt, Dildarnagar, Darauli, Zamania, Dheena, Sakaldiha, Kuchman, Pt Deendayal Upadhaya Junction (Mughalsarai), Vyas Nagar and Kashi, Kumar said and recalled minister Sinha had only last month announced that a new MEMU passenger train would be run between Buxar and Varanasi.
Meanwhile, the railways rescheduled the departure and arrival of at least four pairs of passenger trains for two to three hours on Wednesday due to non-interlocking work being carried out on Bakhtiarpur-Barh surface triangle line under the Danapur division of ECR.
The rescheduled trains included Patna-Jasidih passenger(63208), Jhajha-Patna passenger (63209), Patna-Jhajha passenger (63210) and Patna-Saharsa Rajrani Express (12568), the CPRO said.
Besides, at least seven passenger trains, including Katihar-Patna Intercity (15713), Dibrugarh-New Delhi Bhramputra Mail (14055), Sealdah-Varanasi Express (13133), Guwahati- Lokmanya Tilak Express (15648), Banka-Rajendra Nagar Terminal passenger (13241), Lokmanya Tilak-Bhagalpur Express (12336) and Surat-Bhagalpur Express (22947), were controlled for two hours at different stations between Khagaria and Barh, Kiul and Barh, Ara and Bakhtiarpur due to the non-interlocking work on the surface triangle line.
