GURUGRAM: Sunil, the alleged paedophile and serial killer being investigated for raping and murdering several young girls, has told interrogators he frequented the Sangam Vihar area in Delhi, leading police to focus their probe on that area of the capital, where he admitted to have molested a 16-year-old girl last year.
On Wednesday, a local court extended Sunil’s police custody by a day and sent him to Civil Lines police station, which will investigate his role in the disappearance, rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in January 2017.

A Delhi Police officer was present in the court and separately applied for Sunil’s production remand but the judge turned it down, directing them to wait till Gurugram police had completed its investigation. Delhi Police is planning to conduct an independent investigation of the four cases in the national capital linked to Sunil.
Sunil will be produced in court again on Thursday, the third day in a row (starting Tuesday, when his fingerprints were recorded). After Civil Lines police station, the Sadar police station is expected to get Sunil’s custody to investigate his role in the disappearance, rape and murder of a four-year-old girl in Sector 46 in November 2016.
Sunil was arrested in a probe into the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Gurugram earlier this month, on November 12. He is accused of raping and murdering at least three girls in the city between 2016 and 2018. He is also being probed for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in 2013 who was found near Sikanderpur metro station, bleeding and injured.
Police’s attempt to nail Sunil in multiple cases by matching semen samples taken from clothes he wore during his latest crime and bio-slides of his earlier victims hit a hurdle as FSL Madhuban wrote back, saying “semen not detected” in two cases.

“Though he is not talking about any more crimes in Gurugram, he said his favourite haunt was Sangam Vihar as many of his acquaintances lived and worked there,” said a member of the special investigation team (SIT) probing Sunil’s crimes. “He says the best bhandaras operate from the area and he also attended several weddings there. He initially confessed to one case involving a girl but now talks of several others in that area.”
Gurugram police claimed to have updated the Sangam Vihar police station in this regard. “We cannot say anything till we get to interrogate him. Yes, we have got some leads from him in certain cases but cannot reveal details,” said an officer with Delhi Police, who had come to the court on Wednesday.
ACP (crime) Shamsher Singh Dahiya said Sunil had admitted to crimes in Moti Bagh and Old Delhi too. “We are doing our best to get all the evidence. Giving out any details about the forensic evidence will hamper the forthcoming judicial proceedings, so I would not comment on it,” he added.
In the 2017 case, a girl had gone missing from Pir Baba Shrine in Civil Lines and 20 days later, her body was found in a water tank near Rajiv Chowk. Sunil is accused of raping and killing her. On Tuesday, the girl’s twin sister and grandmother identified Sunil at the police station.
The girl’s father (50) who runs a food stall, said his daughters, along with their mother and grandmother, had gone out for a meal. “After 20 days, we found her body which had not decomposed yet. It seems she was murdered just a day or two before her body was found. It means she was in captivity for 16-18 days,” he said.
The girl’s mother said, “We were waiting for prasad when we saw the accused playing with our daughters but we did not pay much attention. After some time, my daughter went to the toilet and never returned.”
So far, apart from the crimes in Gurugram, the alleged murders of two girls in Gwalior has been linked to Sunil while police in the Madhya Pradesh city and neighbouring Jhansi and Mahoba, where Sunil is from, are also looking at unsolved cases of girls who went missing.
