Security beefed up at Bhagalpur rly station
BHAGALPUR: Security has been beefed up at Bhagalpur railway station after the station manager got a letter from the ‘Maoists’ threatening to blow up the station on December 12.
On getting information, station superintendent Onkar Prasad reported the matter to senior railway authorities besides the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Government Railway Police (GRP), and the district police about the issues mentioned in the letter.
Subsequently, the RPF and the GRP conducted a thorough search on the railway station premises, yards and trains. The local police were also informed, besides reinforcing security on the railway premises.
“We have taken precautionary measures as it involves lives of passengers and railway property,” said Prasad.
SP (rail) Aamir Javed said a police team has been sent to the sender’s address for a through investigation and verifying the authenticity of the letter. “We are not taking any chance and have reinforced security at the railway station and the trains passing through Malda-Bhagalpur-Kiul railway section,” said Javed.
Police sources, however, claimed that the letter was reportedly sent by a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker Bhanu Prasad Choudhary, a resident of Bhatakul under Bhatar police station in Bardhaman district of West Bengal.
