JALPAIGURI: Even as people continued to criticize the South City mall authorities, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken a step in the right direction. It has announced its plans to earmark a private space at the Jalpaiguri Road station for women to breastfeed their children.
This will be a first for NFR. Eastern Railway (ER) has nursing rooms at Howrah, Sealdah, Malda Town, Asansol, Burdwan and
Bhagalpur.
"This is a new concept and there is no designated space for nursing mothers at any station under NFR. We shall start with the one on Jalpaiguri Road. This space within the waiting room will be open in a month," said C V Raman, divisional railway manager, Alipurduar.
Indian Railways has also decided to come up with such facilities at 100 stations after a prod from the ministry of women and child development.
