Day 1: Microsoft offers highest pay, most US jobs at IITs
MUMBAI: Software giant Microsoft emerged as the highest-paying firm at most IITs on Day One of campus placements, for the second consecutive year. The firm even picked up most students for US profiles for a package of $2.14 lakh. While the salary offered in US dollars is same as last year, the declining rupee value led to the highest salary touching the Rs 1.5 crore mark this year.
In 2017, the package offered by Microsoft was at Rs 1.39 crore.
“A recent survey among students had shown that most aspire to work at Microsoft,” said a placement committee member. At IITBombay, three more firms picked students for US profiles, including Uber International, Rubrik and firsttime recruiter Cohesity.
Blackstone has given the highest offer of Rs 45 lakh per annum for domestic profile at IIT-Bombay. The numbers of companies offering Rs 25 lakh and over has increased this year across campuses, said an official at IIT-Bombay. In all, a total of 35 companies visited the Powai campus on day one of placements, of which six were international ones.
At IIT-Kharagpur, 12 international offers were made on Day One, most of it were from Mercari, Japan. Microsoft, too, picked four students from the campus.
Microsoft, Google, Apple, Airbus and McKinsey were among the day one recruiters at IIT-Madras. Apple offered eight jobs at the institute and Goldman Sachs picked seven. Microsoft gave the highest numbers of offers (around 25) for three profiles to students. At the Chennai campus, 85 offers were given to students in the first slot of day one.
Package offered by Microsoft across campuses stands at Rs 1.5 crore for their international profiles. At IIT Delhi, Microsoft and Uber were among the international recruiters too.
