Priyanka and Nick get hitched, royally!

Nickyanka’s Hindu wedding was complete with hathi, ghoda, dhol and nagada. After three days of wedding festivities that included a colourful mehendi ceremony, a friendly cricket match, filmi sangeet and Christian ceremony, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot in a traditional Hindu ceremony on Sunday at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. With Rajasthani music and dance, safas and traditional Rajasthani fare of daal-baati choorma, it was truly a royal wedding.Talking about the wedding celebration, Parineeti Chopra’s parents said on Monday, “It was a perfect blend of two cultures, where two families came together in a loving atmosphere.”
The haldi-chooda ceremony was on the same day as the wedding and began soon after breakfast. A source told us that the venue for the haldi ceremony (Mardana Hall) was decked up with marigold flowers and ghungroos and the dress code was pink and orange. Priyanka wore a white angrakha kurta with red resham embroidery, designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Nick wore an ivory kurta and pajama by the same designers. Priyanka’s mom Madhu Chopra wore a yellow sari. Nick and Priyanka’s friends wore ethnic outfits designed by Jaipur-based designer Puneet Balana. Sophie Turner wore a yellow printed outfit for the haldi ceremony.
As per sources, Priyanka’s brother Siddharth and some of her cousins lifted and carried her to the haldi venue amid dhol and nagada beats. A traditional Rajasthani spread with delicacies like daal-baati choorma and laal maas was served for lunch at the Rathore Darbaar. Pethe ka halwa, mishti doi and kesar bati were also a part of the menu.

After the haldi-chooda ceremony, the wedding rituals started at 5pm with the safa ceremony in the lawns of the palace. For the wedding ceremony, the corridors of Umaid Bhawan were lit up with diyas and lights. “Nick made an entry on a ghodi, as is the tradition in Hindu weddings. He was given three options for his entry – a vintage car, a chopper and a ghodi – and he chose the ghodi when he got to know that it is tradition,” says a source. Nick’s sehrabandi was done by two pandits in the lobby of the palace. Priyanka came till the main entrance of the Palace with her mother and bridesmaids.
The bride and the groom had another special royal ride waiting for them – a decked-up elephant – which took them around the palace to the main wedding venue, the Baradari Gardens. “At the varmala ceremony, Priyanka was lifted by all her brothers,” says a source. The varmala ceremony was followed by dinner, while the priest made preparations for pheras, which started at around 10pm and wrapped up by 11.30pm. Priyanka’s vidaai took place at around midnight. “After the vidaai, she moved from the Maharani suite to the Maharaja suite,” says our source. Both Priyanka and Nick were dressed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee. The designer was one of the guests at the wedding and helped the bride get ready. Nick also carried a sword. The couple will have a reception in Delhi today.
