Telangana elections: ‘Name-changer’ Yogi Adityanath has eyes on Karimnagar
HYDERABAD: After announcing that BJP would rename Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar if BJP is voted to power, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath continued with his ‘name-changing’ spree which he adopted in his state by asserting that Karimnagar in Telangana would be renamed as Karipuram once the saffron party rides to a win at the hustings.
The CM, who had been changing names of cities like Allahabad and Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, said respecting the sentiments of the people, Karimnagar’s name would also be changed by the BJP govrenment in Telangana.

Addressing public meetings in Karimnagar town, Bhoopalapally and Bodhan on Wednesday, Aditynaath said BJP was the only alternative to TRS, TDP and Congress and accused the parties of practising family rule and indulging in appeasement politics. In BJP, an ordinary worker could become a Prime Minister and Vice-President, referring to Narendra Modi and M Venkaiah Naidu.
The chief minister said parties like TRS and Congress have separate promises to Mulsim minorities to appease them and deprive the others. “But we believe in sab ka saath sab ka vikas,” he said.
He criticised succesive governments for backwardness of Telangana. “There is no dearth of natural resources in the state, but the previous governments have played votebank politics, appeasement politics and neglected the state,” he said.
Over the years, he said, Naxalism and ISI have grown in the state and only the BJP could curb Maoist and terrorist activites with an iron hand. Adityanath said the BJP government believed in the mantra that everybody should prosper irrespective of their caste, creed and religion and had been implementing various schemes. In the last four-anda-half years of its rule, BJP gave eight crore LPG connections to women, he said. aimed. 2 crore houses were built under Awas Yojana, 4 crore electricity connectons to houses and 12 crore toilets were built, he said.
