Andhra Pradesh: TDP sets high membership target to beat rivals
TDP is one of the few political parties in the country to have member with over 50 lakh.
AMARAVATI: Sensing the intensity of the attacks by its rivals ahead of the the assembly and general elections, the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has set its focus on fortifying the party’s network at the field level.
The party is fast building its booth-level committees and organising the special training sessions on handling the poll related work.
Besides, the party leadership has put the in-charges in all the assembly segments on high-alert in reaching the targets in enrollment of membership.

The party senior leaders are closely monitoring the situation with the legislators and the constituency in-charges almost on daily basis.
Party supremo Chandrababu Naidu himself is interacting with the party leaders at least twice a week and emphasising the need to further strengthening the party at the grassroots.
TDP leadership is of the view that the organization at the field level has been its strength in outsmarting the political rivals since its inception and fortifying the party’s network is more required in the present political situation.
TDP is one of the few political parties in the country to have member with over 50 lakh. In fact, TDP set a new record by registering nearly 64 lakh members in its books from just 13 districts during the last phase of membership drive.

Although, the next phase of the membership drive is due only before the next Mahanadu, its annual conclave in May, the party had advanced the schedule by six months keeping in view of the assembly elections.
Interestingly, the party has already got around 33 lakh members into its kitty in a span of just one month. “We can easily surpass the previous record and reach 70 lakh mark by the end of December as there is massive craze among all sections of people thanks to the welfare programmes initiated by the chief minister Chandrababu Naidu,” said Dr Kodela Sivaram, TDP youth leader and in-charge of membership drive in Sattenapalle and Narasaraopet constituencies in Guntur district.
He observed that people are voluntarily coming forward to join the party as they are feeling it as a privilege to have TDP membership. Interestingly, both Narasaraopet and Sattenapalle secured place in the top five assembly segments in the membership drive.
According to party’s strategy, each assembly segment should have a membership base of about 40000-50000. At least 10000-15000 would be trained as core members who would be playing key role in bringing the voters to the booth.
“Each segment has around 2 lakh votes from which 1.5 lakh will be polled. With a membership base of 50000, it might not be difficult for just ride through the victory,” observed a senior party leader.
