Kia Motors to make EVs in Anantapur
Amaravati: South Korean auto giant, Kia Motors India, that is set to roll out its first vehicle next year, is gearing up to also manufacture electric vehicles (EVs) at its upcoming unit in Anantapur.
“We are confident of producing hybrid and electric vehicles at our Anantapur plant by 2021, aligning with our global vision of manufacturing 16 electrified vehicles (models) by 2025,” Kookhyun Shim, managing director and CEO, Kia Motors India, said.

In fact, Kia Motors India inked a MoU with the AP government to collaborate in the area of ‘Future Eco Mobility’ and has provided the government three eco-friendly cars from its stable.
“As a part of our association, we are providing the government with three of our world class cars from our Eco fleet portfolio. This is a noteworthy step towards the future of mobility and we have committed ourselves to producing hybrid and electric vehicles at our Anantapur plant,” he said.
CM Chandrababu Naidu requested Kia to offer advisory services to the state so that it can encourage more green mobility solutions. The state is also keen on encouraging R&D activities in the area of battery storage as storing solar energy is one the challenges being faced by the industry, Naidu added.
Naidu pointed out that AP will be developing 14 smart cities, which offers immense potential for collaboration in coming up with green mobility solutions. Here Naidu pointed out that the AP government is already procuring EVs for civic usage like garbage collection.
