Bhagalpur DM: Identify black spots on roads
BHAGALPUR: Bhagalpur DM Pranav Kumar has asked the road construction and transport department officials to identify ‘black spots’ on roads in the district and initiate measures to check accidents. The DM has also asked the RCD officials to put up signboards regarding the black spots after their identification in order to alert the vehicle drivers and avoid road accidents.
The DM issued the directives on Friday while reviewing the traffic scenario in the district.
Officials of the district transport department, RCD and Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation (BMC) attended the meeting.
The black spots, according to ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), is a road stretch of about 500metres in length, in which either five road accidents or 10 fatalities took place during the last three years.
“Identification of black spots will go a long way in checking road accidents,” the DM said.
The DM also asked the transport department and the traffic police to create awareness among the bikers so that they wear helmet and follow traffic rules. The DM expressed concern over reports of vehicle-driving by children having no driving licence.
The DM asked the officials concerned to take legal action against those violating the provisions of Motors Vehicle Act, 1988.
Among others, the review meeting was attended by BMC commissioner Shyam Bihari Meena and Muzaffarpur district transport officer Rajesh Kumar.
