Turkmenistan is promoting the global concept of reliable and safe energy transit to end consumers, the Turkmengas State Concern said in a message quoting UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova.
Panova was speaking in Ashgabat at the UNESCO international conference on “Importance of the Great Silk Roads: Present and Future Development”, Trend reports.
The main project capable of providing sustainable solutions for the regions of Central and South Asia is the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, Panova said.
In her opinion, this gas pipeline is an example of indivisibility and integrated approach in promoting global development, peace and security, as well as addressing issues related to climate change.
Earlier, the Turkmengas State Concern said in a message quoting CEO of the TAPI Pipeline Company Ltd. Consortium Muhammetmyrat Amanov that the Turkmen gas, which is to be delivered via the TAPI pipeline, will reach Pakistan in two years.
He was speaking at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) underway in the UAE.
The construction of the pipeline began in December 2015. As the leader of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, Turkmengas State Concern, which has a controlling stake, is the main financier and project manager. The consortium also includes the Afghanistan Gas Corporation, Inter State Gas Systems (Private) Limited and Indian GAIL.
The total length of the pipeline, with a capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year will be 1,840 kilometers. The gas will be supplied from the Galkynysh field in Turkmenistan, the second largest in the world. This energy bridge will pass through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar (816 kilometers), through the cities of Quetta and Multan across Pakistani territory (819 kilometers), and reach the settlement of Fazilka in India.
