Share market update: Telecom shares dip; Sterlite Tech slips nearly 5%

NEW DELHI: Telecom shares were trading with losses with the S&P BSE Telecom index down 2.27 per cent at 937.35 on Monday.

Shares of Sterlite Technologies (down 4.71 per cent), Reliance Communications (down 4.31 per cent), GTL Infrastructure (down 4.12 per cent) and OnMobile Global (down 3.76 per cent) were the top losers in the index.

Vindhya Telelinks (down 3.28 per cent), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (down 2.89 per cent), Aksh Optifibre (down 2.51 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (down 2.50 per cent) too were among the worst performers in the index.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 187.80 points at 10,505.9 while BSE Sensex was down 611.47 points at 35,061.78 around 02:05 pm.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 6 were trading in the green, while 44 were in the red.

Shares of Reliance Communications, YES Bank, Infibeam Avenues, Indian Oil Corp, Vakrangee, Suzlon Energy, JP Associates, Dish TV India, Jet Airways, ITC, PC Jeweller, Sun Pharma, RIL, PFC and PNB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
