NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of
Delhi Police arrested a
Malda-based arms supplier who used to supply weapons to gangs in outer and north-east Delhi areas.
The accused, Saiqul Sheikh (32), was on the police
radar for two years. Since January 2016, the Special Cell seized more than 500 sophisticated weapons and arrested their carriers as well as manufacturers.
DCP (special cell) Sanjeev Yadav said that Sheikh was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on him.
The cell had arrested a carrier named Azimuddin in August and recovered two carbines and 38 pistols from him. He had given concrete information about Sheikh being the kingpin of the module.
Since then, teams had gone to Malda in West
Bengal multiple times and camped there for days to develop intelligence about Sheikh. On December 10, sub-inspector Ravi Kumar received a tip-off that the accused would come to Khaltipur railway station in Malda to make a deal. A trap was laid and the accused flagged down on the informer’s instance.
