HYDERABAD: The All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) made its electoral debut in Maharashtra’s Dhule Municipal Corporation (DMC) on Monday by bagging four seats.
Incidentally, three of the four winning MIM candidates are women. MIM had fielded 11 candidates in the DMC polls. While MIM’s Mehrunisa Shaikh won from Ward 13B (general-women), Nazia Bano Pathan bagged Ward 3C (general-women) and Saida Ansari won from Ward 3B (general).
The sole male winner Saeed Baig emerged victorious from Ward 3D (general).
Buoyed by the party’s success in the DMC polls, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi told TOI that the party will contest elections for the Dhule assembly constituency too.
“Without holding a single public meeting in Dhule, we won four divisions. We will also contest for the Dhule assembly seat,” Owaisi said.
Thanking the party’s Aurangabad cadre, Owaisi said with the victory in Dhule MIM has further strengthened its base in Maharashtra.
“We thank the people of Dhule for electing our candidates. MIM is now entrenched in Maharashtra, which is the most satisfying part. Thanks to MIM cadre and special thanks to Aurangabad MLA Imtiyaz Jaleel and Aurangabad MIM corporators,” said the Hyderabad MP.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the DMC elections by winning 51 of the 73 seats. While the Indian National Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance won 14 seats, Shiv Sena won two seats.
