Chris Farrell will miss Munster's Champions Cup clash against Castres on Saturday as he struggles to overcome the quad strain that ruled him out of last weekend's home win over the Top 14 champions.

In more positive injury news however, Joey Carbery could return from his hamstring problem, while Chris Cloete passed his HIA without any issues.

Johann van Graan is hopeful that Farrell isn't facing another extended spell on the sidelines but he did reveal that the centre underwent further scans this morning to determine the extent of the damage.

"Joey, we'll make a decision on later in the week, I think he's got a chance of making it,” the Munster head coach said in Limerick this afternoon.

“Chris won't be available for this weekend. We're sending him for further tests, but I don't think he'll be available for this weekend.

“We''re sending him for some further tests, but like I said it doesn't seem to be 'a few days' thing,”

Elsewhere, Stephen Archer, Tommy O’Donnell, Stephen Fitzgerald, Jean Kleyn and Liam O’Connor will resume training today.

James Cronin (leg), Rhys Marshall (hamstring), Jack O’Donoghue (knee), Dave O’Callaghan (foot), James Hart (knee), Dan Goggin (knee) and Darren Sweetnam (back) remain unavailable but are said to be progressing well.
