After a whirlwind year for Meghan Markle, the former actress has found herself at the top of Google's most searched person list for 2018.

The 2018 Year in Search reveals the people, topics, events and places that the UK searched for this year.

Key events featured prominently - including the Royal Wedding and Royal Baby.

However the Duchess of Sussex proved to be spark the public's interest after coming up top for the UK Top Trending People catagory.

Meghan tied the knot with Prince Harry on May 19, which saw tens of millions of people from around the world tune in to watch the wedding broadcast.

Big names including George Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham and Oprah Winfrey were among the celebrities who attended the nuptials at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

However, there was even more hype for the duchess's Givenchy gown which she wore for the ceremony and a halter Stella McCartney dress for the reception at Frogmore House.

Then on October 15, Kensington Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child in Spring 2019.

This announcement came as the pair landed in Australia for their first joint royal tour, where they travelled to Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.

Meghan's name also came second in the UK Top Trending Queries list behind ‘World Cup’.

Also following Meghan on the most googled list was former Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett who came second after accusing fellow Celebrity Big Brother housemate Ryan Thomas of punching her.

Third and fourth spots were taken by singer Demi Lovato, who is said to have suffered an overdose and TV presenter Ant McPartlin who struggled with alcohol addiction.

Several blockbuster films were also on the UK’s mind this year, with Black Panther and A Star is Born both in the UK’s top 10 trending queries.
