The CM was speaking after inaugurating the administrative building of Dr Kalam Agriculture College near Arrabari under Pothiya block in Kishanganj district. “The site of this college is very attractive. Mahananda river is flowing near its campus.
Its environment is very soothing. Kishanganj can be developed as new place of attraction for foreign and domestic tourists,” Nitish said after seeing a presentation on the road map for development of the college.
The CM also visited the college’s digital classroom, insects’ museum and computer lab. He also inaugurated a Krishi Vikas Mela on the college campus and visited different stalls there. Nitish stressed on early earth levelling work and planting of trees alongside the institute’s boundary.
Highlighting the importance of solar energy, Nitish asked the college administration to dig up many big ponds on the campus and do fish cultivation in the pond and set up solar energy plants over the same ponds. “Dig up a pond in an area of five acres. Do fish cultivation in the pond. And put up solar plates above the pond for renewable energy,” Nitish told officers.
He also advised them for putting up solar plates on all the buildings of the college so that the institute could meet its energy requirement from the solar plants.
The college, which was named after former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam by the CM as part of Bihar government’s tribute a day after Kalam’s death, was inaugurated on August 10, 2015 by Nitish.
State’s agriculture minister Prem Kumar, chief secretary Deepak Kumar, JD(U) MP Santosh Kushwaha and principal secretary (agriculture) Sudhir Kumar also accompanied the CM during his visit to the college.
