    Xerox sees business in digitising documents, on-demand printing

    BENGALURU: Xerox has stepped up its on-demand printing services in India as the country emerges as one of the hottest markets for such services, the company said. The firm is also looking to digitise documents, a service in which government and private clients have shown interest.
    Talking to ET, managing director of Xerox India Raj Kumar Rishi said the company recently digitised Bangladesh’s household census which removed the hassle of paperwork in the process and enhanced accuracy and efficiency. These services which started from the scratch by digitising survey forms, also included archiving and analysing of the recorded data.

    Xerox has also beefed up security features for its printers. It has added features like codes to restrict printer access to address the growing threat to data within companies. It has also introduced a voice-command feature for its A3 printers, which can also be handled through mobile phones.

    Commenting on a dip in the printing market, Rishi — who took over the role after leading Hewlett-Packard’s India print business — said, the market has some new avenues where printing is growing. Citing an instance, he said, education was now heavily dependable on printers for projects which wasn’t the case 10 years ago.

    “Many such areas have now opened up in the printing segment.”

    Notably, while developed markets like the US and Europe have been shrinking in the last few years, China and India have been growing in volume terms.

    According to International Data Corporation, the total value of sale of printing equipment in the world will stand at $717 million by 2021. The value of the digital printing market would be $119.5 million in the same period.
