HYDERABAD: With the elections around the corner, the State government seems to be in the process of pulling out all the stops to advertise the development it has done so far in Amaravati.
From arranging free tours for public to proposing to bring out a newsletter highlighting the achievements, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), which will complete four years of formation in two weeks, is planning to showcase the new capital’s progress.

The authority is making arrangements to launch free tours to the capital from Saturday. “We will start the tours for public, students, farmers and others from December 15. We are planning to have 25 buses a day to take them around Amaravati,” APCRDA Vice-Chairperson P Narayana, who is also the Municipal Administration Minister, explained. For the one-day tour, buses will be available from the district headquarters and the number is expected to increase based on the demand. The conveyance, meals and other costs will be borne by the APCRDA.

The programme will be based along the lines of ‘Polavaram Yatra’. About three lakh people visited the Polavaram project site since the yatra began in April. Even though the authority has achieved significant progress since its formation in December 2014, the officials said there are doubts among some sections of the public regarding its development. “The tour will help dispel the doubts the people have on the capital’s construction, which has been a part of political mudslinging for quite sometime. Since the development of the capital is based on the aspirations of the public, we expect the tour to acquaint the visitors with the ground reality,” a senior official observed.

Not stopping with the tour, the authority is also planning to come up with a bimonthly newsletter to distribute among the public. The newsletter, titled ‘Mana Amaravati’, will highlight the project’s achievements and status. “For the first time, we are going to publish a newsletter, which will give a complete picture of Amaravati. It will be in Telugu and will be distributed among the stakeholders,” an official explained. Besides this, the authority is also using social media to upload videos of the construction activity underway and finalise the designs of the projects.
