NOIDA: After a delay of over six years, work on the 5.5km elevated road over the Shahdara drain on the Delhi-Noida stretch is all set to take off in January next year. Noida Authority got the final go-ahead from Delhi’s lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Friday to launch the ambitious project.
The Rs 650 crore project is expected to be completed in 42 months. Once constructed, the road would provide seamless connectivity to motorists between east Delhi’s Chilla area in Mayur Vihar phase 1 and Noida-Greater Noida expressway.

Though the feasibility study of this six-lane elevated road was carried out in 2013, it did not see the light of the day because of lack of clearance from the Delhi government since part of the corridor falls in the national capital.
Noida Authority revived the project in April this year and last week got a nod from Delhi’s irrigation department.
“On Friday, we presented the proposal in the 58th governing body meeting of Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (PLG & Engineering) Centre where it was cleared by Delhi’s lieutenant governor Anil Baijal. The deck is now cleared for the elevated road project to kick-start by January 2019,” Noida Authority chief Alok Tandon said.
The project will be executed by UP State Bridge Corporation Ltd, officials said.

The elevated road will start from the end of Mayur Vihar flyover in Delhi and pass through Noida sectors 14, 14A, 15, I5A, 16, 18 to finally connect to Noida-Greater Noida Expressway before Mahamaya flyover. Currently, 75,000 vehicles use this route daily, triggering traffic jams during peak hours.
In fact, the dual carriageway elevated corridor was conceptualized with an aim to decongest Mayur Vihar-Noida Road which leads to Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Kalindi Kunj. “Because this road witnesses very heavy traffic and frequent snarls, especially in Noida side, the proposed corridor was planned,” said Tandon.
“Not only it will facilitate uninterrupted vehicular movement from Delhi going towards Noida, but seamless traffic can come from Noida Expressway and Kalindi Kunj area (via a proposed loop) using this corridor to reach right up to the end of existing Mayur Vihar flyover,” the Authority boss said.
On a macro level, areas that are expected to benefit from the construction of this road include Akshardham, Mayur Vihar to Noida, Pari Chowk, Kalindi Kunj, Sarita Vihar. Currently, traffic passes through the Dadri-Noida link road which faces heavy traffic jams daily.
