B. B. King: On the Road

NITV, 8.30pm

Just like it says on the box, this terrific documentary looks at the life and work of B.B. King through his time on the road. King's touring schedule was the stuff of legend. From the 1950s through to the 2000sit was normal for him to spend 300-plus days of the year travelling and performing. It's a testament to his fortitude that over that half-century he churned through a great many band members, many of whom appear in the documentary to fondly reminisce. He also covered a lot of historical and cultural ground, from the black-only "Chitlins Circuit" to Glastonbury, making this as much a social documentary as a musical one. It's certainly a lot of fun meeting the white dudes King recruited over the years into both his band and his entourage. This is also, of course, packed with famous faces and – best of all – fabulous music. MH
