The model made history in June this year when she became the first transgender woman to be crowned Miss Spain, taking her through with a chance to win Miss Universe 2018 and beginning her tour of the world as part of the pageant.

Posting a snap as she posed on a boat in Tarragona next to the Spanish flag, she made her intentions clear, writing: 'Bringing the name and colors of Spain before the Universe is my great dream.

'My goal: to be a spokesperson for a message of inclusion, respect and diversity not only for the LGBTQ + community but for the entire world.'

Angela's path to the coveted beauty pageant, which saw Filipina-Australian Catriona Gray crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2018 on Sunday, has not been straightforward.

The Spanish beauty has shared her struggle to being accepted in the beauty world, slamming former owner of the competition Donald Trump after a leaked White House report showed his administration is considering pushing changes to the law to define gender by biological traits at birth, while trying to block transgender people from military service.

With her profile rising fast, Angela continued to make history by appearing on a special episode of Spain's First Dates during the summer, dedicated to LGTB Pride Day celebrated on June 28 and throughout the week in Madrid

And with her profile rising fast, Angela is using her position to hammer home the importance of LGBTQ rights, and reduce the stigma surrounding transgender people.

Earlier this year she appeared on a special episode of Spain's First Dates, dedicated to LGBT Pride Day celebrated on June 28 and throughout the week in Madrid.

Having completed various stops in Spain through the summer, the Madrid-based model even made a stop in sun-soaked Miami, keeping fans entertained with picturesque bikini snaps.

And arriving back in Spain, the passionate campaigner visited congress for a meeting, writing online: 'A lot of controversy has arisen from a meeting I had with a political group a few days ago.

'I wanted to clarify certain points, since my mission as Miss Universe Spain is to convey a message of equality, respect and diversity!

'It is absolutely necessary to get my message to anyone who wants to listen and learn. I do not talk about politics, my mission is to promote Human Rights.

'At the end of my reign, if I have achieved that at least one other person has a kind look with another, I will be satisfied with my work in Miss Universe!'

The model frequently shares messages of support for the LGBT community, posting tributes to those lost after battling stigma in society.

Angela is passionate about raising awareness on suicide in the community, and posts snaps of her work highlighting the battles faced.

Following a recent interview with Spanish paper La Patilla, where she spoke about being the first transgender model in the finals, she wrote: 'It fills me with deep joy to think that news like this will bring smiles, hopes and will give light to an important group of people who one day, tired of discrimination, resigned themselves to not dreaming.

'According to Maria Gabriela Isler, Director of Communications and Public Relations of the contest "The code of ethics says that to participate in the Miss Venezuela you must be a woman, not a woman of birth, because that is what it is about, diversity and inclusion".

'News like these confirm that, little by little, an egalitarian world is possible. A world where nobody has to spend their lives explaining why they should have the same rights that others have. A world where we do not have to spend our lives defending ourselves from prejudices and preconceived positions.'(sic)

And continuing her mission to highlight discrimination in her community, Angela this week spoke about her battle.

Speaking to AFP, after the pageant reversed a longstanding policy in 2012 that participants must be 'naturally born' women, she said: 'Who hasn't suffered from prejudice? Who hasn't had to deal with bullying?'

'Having a vagina didn't transform me into a woman. I am a woman, already before birth, because my identity is here (in my head).

'To be a woman is your identity. It doesn't matter if you are white, black, if you have a vagina- if you have a penis.

'Children are born without prejudices and I think that if we talk to them about diversity from a young age we can create a new generation of human beings who are raised a lot better, more tolerant and respectful.'
