After cabinet nod, Allahabad is now officially Prayagraj
Allahabad will now be known as Prayagraj
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday finalised the renaming of Allahabad as Prayagraj and of Allahabad Municipal Corporation as Prayagraj Municipal Corporation.
It also cleared a supplementary budget of about Rs 11,000 crore which will be presented in the ongoing winter session of the Assembly on Wednesday.
The cabinet also cleared the UP Mining (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transport and Storage) Rules, 2018, to discourage illegal mining from riverbeds.

As per the rules, no permission will be given for storage of minerals, sand etc., in a radius of 10 km from the source of mining. The licence for storage of minerals and sand will be given for a maximum of three years, with a two-year extension permissible under stipulations. The rules, said sources, would not affect any such person who would require the sand or other minerals for personal use within the 10 km radius.
Clearance was also accorded to the proposal to reintroduce the UP Water Recharge and Sewer Management (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018, in the Assembly. This will replace the Uttar Pradesh Water Recharge and Sewer Management (Amendment) Bill, 2018.
The cabinet also gave its approval to a payment of Rs 265 crore for the Jaunpur sewerage programme for 2017-2020.
Under the Aasra scheme, the government will provide housing to families in underdeveloped areas and urban slums who have so far not been covered under any existing government housing scheme.

The allocation of houses will be done directly, without going through a lottery system.
A decision was also taken to replace insurance stamps on LIC policy bonds with a one-time lumpsum stamp duty. LIC had requested the UP government to make this change.
The cabinet also cleared the Vishwakarma Samman scheme for craftspersons and skilled workers like tailors, goldsmiths, sculptors etc., in both urban and rural areas under which the government will provide them with free training for six days.
