A 24-year-old imam was found murdered inside a mosque in Bijnor’s Pooranpur Nagla village rushed to the spot Saturday morning, police said.
Noor Hasan’s body was discovered in his room by a local youth who had gone looking for him when he did not turn up to conduct prayers.
Hasan had been conducting prayers at the mosque for the last two years, police said. On hearing about his death, several residents of the village rushed to the spot.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s elder brother Alamgeer an FIR against unidentified persons on murder charge was registered at Noorpur police station. No one has been arrested so far.
The police suspect personal enmity was the motive. They have collected footage from a CCTV installed near the mosque.
Station House Officer of Noorpur police station Suman Kumar said, “The body had a head injury. The postmortem report stated that the death occurred due to strangulation.”
