In an apparent instance of honour killing, a 22-year-old woman from Kalamadugu in Jannaram mandal of Mancherial district, Pindi Anuradha, was beaten to death on Saturday night, allegedly by her father Sathaiah, brother and relatives, for marrying outside her caste.

According to information, Anuradha had married Ayyori Laxman, working as teacher at a private school in Allampalli of Kadem mandal in Nirmal district.

He also hailed from Kalamadugu.

The two had been in love and, owing to opposition from elders, had eloped on December 1.

Anuradha and Laxman got married the next day at Arya Samaj in Hyderabad.

The couple returned to their village the same day.

Sathaiah and others allegedly went to Laxman’s house in the evening and brought back Anuradha, beating her all the way, even as passers-by watched it.

It was believed that the victim died because of the beating. The alleged culprits reportedly took the body to a high ground and burnt it.

They then discarded the bones and ashes in a canal, apparently to obliterate evidence.

Mancherial DCP Venugopal Rao, ACP Ghouse Baba and Luxettipet CI Srinivas visited the scene of offence.

The accused were taken into custody.
