Hurricanes QB N’Kosi Perry hints about potential suspension in online video ahead of Pinstripe Bowl

Three days after a report surfaced about the existence of an “inappropriate” sexually-explicit video that was posted to one of N’Kosi Perry’s social media accounts, the Miami Hurricanes quarterback himself may have answered questions about his eligibility to play in Thursday’s Pinstripe Bowl.

In a video posted on the Instagram Live feed of teammate Gilbert Frierson late Sunday night, Perry – who is not on camera at the time – can be heard saying, “I’m suspended, bro” as those seated around him at a comedy show urge him to be quiet and not say anything else on that particular topic.

The camera then pans to Perry, who is laughing while the comedian – Leonard Ouzts – begins teasing the quarterback not about what he said, but his appearance. The bit was all part of a sketch in Ouzts’ act during which he asked both Miami and Wisconsin players to tell him about their respective teams and the positions they play.

(function(){var a = document.querySelector(‘.s2nPlayer-yR5gTu9w’);if(a && (a = a.parentNode)){a.style.contain=’none’;a.style.overflow=’visible’}})();

As he works his way around the room, Ouzts asks where the teams’ starters at several positions – including cornerback, running back and quarterback – are seated. He prompts the players to raise their hands and when he gets to quarterback, several people in the audience turn to look in Perry’s direction. It’s then that the quarterback can be heard saying, “I’m suspended, bro” as another voice warns him, “Shh. But don’t say that.” Another voice then says, “Yeah, yeah, just raise your hand.”

A UM spokesman on Monday declined to comment on the Instagram Live video or Perry’s current status with the team. On Friday after UM’s school newspaper – The Miami Hurricane – reported Perry posted a graphic and sexually-explicit video to his Snapchat account in September, Miami officials said that Perry would travel to New York with the team, but would not comment on whether or not he was suspended for the bowl game.

As of Monday morning, the Instagram Live in which Perry can be heard saying he is suspended was still posted. The clip came after another Hurricane – tight end Brevin Jordan – created an online stir himself on Sunday, when he told viewers on his own Instagram Live that he believed redshirt senior Malik Rosier would start against Wisconsin.

Perry and Rosier have alternated starts all season, with Perry starting six games, including the last three against Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh. The redshirt freshman has completed 52 percent of his passes for 1,089 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. Rosier, meanwhile, has appeared in seven games, starting six, including the first four. He has completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,007 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

If Perry is suspended, as he alluded to, it would mark the second time this season he’s faced such a disciplinary action. Perry did not play in Miami’s season opener against LSU after the school said he violated an undisclosed team rule.

It would also mark a shift for Hurricanes coach Mark Richt, who has in the past, not allowed suspended players to travel with the team for road games.

Perry did not travel to Arlington earlier this year for the LSU game and fellow quarterback Jarren Williams, who was suspended for Miami’s Nov. 17 game at Virginia Tech, did not travel that weekend to Blacksburg. In 2016 when Miami suspended seven players for its Russell Athletic Bowl showdown with West Virginia, those players did not travel to Orlando.

The Hurricanes practiced Sunday in New York and Richt has not, to this point, named a starter for Thursday’s game.
