NEW DELHI: Three men snatched a cab from a driver after booking the vehicle for an outstation trip from Sarita Vihar on Saturday night. The men had booked the cab through an outstation cab booking application and asked the driver to drop them to Farrukhabad. On the way, they forced him to stop at a dark stretch and asked him to get off the vehicle. They even gave him money to go back home and fled with the vehicle.
The man, Deepak, managed to return to Delhi and contact his manager, who registered a complaint at Sarita Vihar police station.

In his statement, the man told police that he had received a call from his manager about dropping three people to Farrukhabad. According to his instructions, Deepak reached A-block in Sarita Vihar.
He said that two of the men occupied the rear seat of the Swift Dzire car while the third sat next to him. They drove for a few kilometres outside Delhi after which the men asked him to stop near a forest area.
Deepak said that the man sitting beside him stepped out and walked to the driver’s window and removed the car keys. The other two then dragged him out of the driver’s seat by his collar and asked him to find a dhaba nearby. One of them also gave him Rs 300 to return to Delhi.
“They claimed that they would be back with the car in some time. I managed to contact my manager and returned to Delhi after this,” he said.
Police suspect the role of a group of criminals who might be using the car as a getaway vehicle. A case of theft using force has been registered on the basis of the statement by the driver.
The manager of the cab service is being questioned to find out whether he was in connivance with the suspects.
