HYDERABAD: President Ramnath Kovind on Wednesday issued an official notification setting up Andhra Pradesh high court at Amaravati.
The Hyderabad high court, which had been functioning as common a high court till now, will become Telangana high court from January 1.
It has been a long-pending demand of Telangana to have its own high court. It can be recalled Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and the Presidential notification came by the evening.

On the other side, AP too has been asking for its own high court and wants the Centre to notify it in Amaravati.
In fact, the Supreme Court itself had asked the Centre to notify it by Jan 1, 2019. Accordingly, the notification was released notifying the principal seat of AP high court at Amaravati.
However, it needs to be seen whether the Andhra government will be able to make the HC building ready to house the high court within four days from now.
