Five die, 3 injured as parapet collapses in Jehanabad

PATNA: Five people, including a woman and her daughter, died and three were seriously injured when a roof parapet of an old building collapsed at Panchmahla under the Town police station area in Jehanabad on Wednesday evening.
Jehanabad ASP Pankaj Kumar said the deceased were identified as Gayatri Devi (35), her daughter Twinkle Kumari (15), Ram Vinay Prasad (35), Arvind Kumar (26) and Baidyanath Prasad.

He said a two-storey old building was being renovated when a part of the roof parapet fell down on the middle of the road. Gayatri, Twinkle and Ram Vinay died on the spot.
“Two more died on way to the hospital. Two of the three injured were rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital. One injured was undergoing treatment at the sadar hospital,” he said.
DM Alok Ranjan Ghosh said an ex gratia payment of Rs4 lakh each was made to the next of kin of two deceased. “The ex gratia payment will be made to the family members of the other three deceased soon,” he added.
