Pratapgarh jail head warden shot dead from close range

A 55-year-old jail head warden was shot dead by two unidentified assailants near Jail Crossing road in Pratapgarh on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Hari Narayan Trivedi, a resident of Nigohan in Lucknow.

ALLAHABAD: A 55-year-old jail head warden was shot dead by two unidentified assailants near Jail Crossing road in Pratapgarh on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Hari Narayan Trivedi, a resident of Nigohan in Lucknow.
Police said that Trivedi was attacked when he had stepped out of his house to go to the vegetable market. Police said that around 3.30pm on Thursday, two motorcycle-borne assailants came near a vegetable shop where Trivedi was standing and opened fire at him from point blank range.

The jail head warden was immediately rushed to the district hospital but succumbed to injuries during treatment. Senior police officials rushed to the spot for investigation on being alerted about the incident.
SP (Pratapgarh) S Anand said, “The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. Trivedi was posted as a head warden at Pratapgarh district jail since 2013.”
Anand also said that special teams would be constituted to nab the accused.
Eyewitnesses told police that Trivedi’s assailants had covered their faces with a cotton cloth and they had fired three bullets at him.
“The assailants had attacked the jail warden from a point blank range. The bullets were fired to target him fatally,” said one eyewitness.
