Udupi SP Laxman Nimbargi said the mortal remains of Shetty would be kept for public darshan at the officer’s farmhouse in Yedadi from 8am and the final rites conducted around 10am. “His final resting place will be close to that of his late parents,” the SP said.
Newly designated home minister of Karnataka, M B Patil expressed shock over Shetty’s death and said an enquiry will be carried if needed.
“I knew him closely. I was shocked to hear the tragic news last night. It is unfortunate to lose such a genuine and honest officer at such a young age. I have directed DG-IGP Neelamani M Raju to collect all medical records and documents relating to Shetty’s health from Hyderabad and go through them. If needed, we shall carry an enquiry into his death,” he said.
Earlier on Friday night, minister for water resources DK Shivkumar had said, “I feel there should be an enquiry to find whether it was a natural or unnatural death.”
