NEW DELHI: A probe into the death of a 34-year-old man, Waqil Ahmed, near his house in Seemapuri on Thursday, revealed that he used to work as a driver with a politician in Bijnor. The politician’s role is also under scanner and a police team has been sent to his house to question him as well. The identity of the caller who had informed the police about the incident too is being verified, since the number was found to be saved in the name of the politician.
Ahmed’s body was found lying beside a Maruti Swift parked close to a garbage dump near the DDA flats in Seemapuri.
The car was unlocked with the keys inside and Ahmed was found shot in the back of his head.
Sources say that the cops had received a call from a UP number, in which the caller informed that Ahmed was shot dead and was lying on the street. When the cops tried to contact the caller, the number was found to be switched off. After sometime, when the cops managed to contact the person, he refused to cooperate with the police in the probe.
The family members of Ahmed have indicated a conspiracy behind the murder since they suspect that Ahmed might have fallen out with the politician, who was voted out during the assembly elections.
Cops found an ATM card of a Nainital-based bank, Rs 500 and a PAN card from Ahmed’s pocket and are questioning his family about the items.
An autopsy revealed that Ahmed also had an injury on his throat, indicating he was dragged out of the car by his neck and pinned to the ground before being shot.
Police also suspect the role of contract killers in the murder.
