    Police constable killed in UP's Ghazipur by stone-throwing mob

    Synopsis

    Two civilians were also injured as crowd of people waiting for local party leader in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district went out of control and started to pelt stones.

    A policeman died after he was hit by a stone after violent protests broke out in UP's Gazipur. The deceased constable, as per the chief minister’s office, was identified as Surendra Vats, 45. The incident comes hours after PM Narendra Modi addressed a rally in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

    Two civilians were also injured as crowd of people waiting for local party leader in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district went out of control and started to pelt stones.

    According to the police, the incident took place after they were returning from an event attended by PM Narendra Modi.

    The members of Nishad party were allegedly behind the protests. Police have arrested 13 people and detained 10 others for interrogation.

    Taking cognizance of the incident, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who himself was present in the rally, directed the district magistrate and superintendent of police to take strict action against the unruly elements and make immediate arrests.
