LUCKNOW: Passengers' alertness averted a major accident on the
Kota-Patna Express Train after one of its coaches caught fire, near
Deorakot railway station in Faizabad on Saturday. Around 1.30pm , some of the passengers of coach B2 noticed smoke coming from the wheels.
One of them stopped the train by pulling the chain and called the supervisor. The supervisor and his technical staff noticed that the smoke was coming from a fire in the battery section.
The flames were controlled with the fire extinguishers. The team gave the loco pilot a green signal after the batteries were changed. The passengers refused to board the train when some of them noticed that the batteries had expired in 2016.
The crowd relented only when Deorakot station master assured them that staff will constantly monitor the situation till the train reaches its last stop.
Divisional railway manager of NR (
Lucknow division),
Satish Kumar, said "I have ordered the enquiry into the incident. The expired batteries will be replaced once the train reaches Patna junction."
