PATNA: Suspended RJD MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, who has been trying to be a part of the Grand Alliance, said on Monday he would contest the 2019 parliamentary election from his sitting Madhepura seat.
Pappu also said he had already apprised Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other senior functionaries of the party in Delhi of his intention to be a part of the Grand Alliance through the Congress route.
Incidentally, his wife Ranjeet Ranjan is the Congress MP from the Supaul.
Talking to mediapersons, he said RJD chief Lalu Prasad has been consistent in his fight against forces which spread hate in society. However, he did not name any political party in this regard.
Alluding to former minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav whose name he did not take, Pappu also said the RJD had leaders in its ranks who were immature and had no idea of how the politics works. He also spoke in a similar vein about new entrants in the Grand Alliance.
Interestingly, Lalu has not been well disposed towards Pappu whose decision to contest the parliamentary election from Madhepura might cause discomfort to former Union minister Sharad Yadav, who might also be in the fray from the same constituency.
For some time, speculation was rife that Pappu might shift to Purnia that is represented by JD(U) MP Santosh Kumar Kushwaha.
Meanwhile, as the grapevine has it, former Purnia MP from the BJP, Uday Singh alias Pappu Singh, who had lost to Kushwaha in 2014, might also contest from there, no matter if the BJP denies him the ticket this time. By implication, the bid of Pappu Yadav to contest from Madhepura or even Purnia has been complicated.
