At 6 degrees C, mercury dips to an all-time low in Bidar

At 6 degrees Celsius, Bidar, the norther nmost district of Karnataka, made a chilled entry into 2019. The figure, as per the India Meteorological department, is all-time lowest minimum temperature for January, surpassing the previous record of 6.2 degrees Celsius.

BENGALURU: At 6 degrees Celsius, Bidar, the norther nmost district of Karnataka, made a chilled entry into 2019. The figure, as per the India Meteorological department, is all-time lowest minimum temperature for January, surpassing the previous record of 6.2 degrees Celsius. The previous record was on January 6, 1967, i. e 51 years ago.
Weathermen attribute the phenomenon to severe cold wave conditions in parts of north Karnataka.

Comparatively, low temperatures were recorded for Bengaluru city too. “The minimum temperature during the previous night of New Year was 14 degrees Celsius, an eight-year low for the city. On January 23, 2010, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 14.1 degree celsius. The all-time low temperature for Bengaluru, however, was recorded on January 13, 1884 when the mercury levels dropped to 7.8 degree celsius,” said an official from the meteorological centre, Bengaluru.
As per recordings of January 1, HAL airport recorded minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and KIA 12.6 degrees Celsius. Bengaluru is likely to have clear sky for the next few days. Fog/mist is likely during early morning. T he maximum and minimum temperatures will be 27 and 15 degrees celsius.
