NALANDA/PATNA: Two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were thrashed to death at Maghra under the Deep Nagar police station area in Bihar’s Nalanda district on Wednesday as they were suspected to be involved in the murder of local RJD leader Indal Paswan (40), police sources said. Paswan’s bullet-riddled body was found in the village in the morning.
“The two beaten to death were identified as Ranjan Yadav (14) and Santu Malakaar (40),” Nalanda SP Sudhir Kumar Podika told TOI over phone.
Indal was shot dead while returning home on his bike from a relative’s house after attending ‘shraadh’ on Tuesday night. The SP said no empty cartridges were recovered from the spot.
“The irate villagers thrashed Ranjan and Santu with bricks and sticks killing Ranjan on the spot. Santu was rushed to PMCH where he succumbed to his injuries,” the SP said, adding the household items inside their houses were also set ablaze.
The SP said the situation was under control and police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.
This was the second incident of mob violence under the same police station area within 12 hours after assistant sub-inspector of police Akhilesh Singh was shot at in Mahanand village on Tuesday night. Singh, along with a police team, had visited the village on information about firing between two groups of people from Paswan and Yadav communities.
Deep Nagar SHO Dharmendra Kumar said Indal, who owned a construction material shop at Maghra, had a heated argument with his nephew, Gopal Paswan — who hadn’t paid for the construction materials he purchased from Indal’s shop a few months ago — on Tuesday evening. “Indal’s family members alleged that Gopal, with connivance of Ranjan, Santu and some others killed him,” the SHO said, adding police were yet to receive a written complaint in connection with Indal’s murder.
